As we're soon heading into winter, I thought this a perfect time to highlight our wonderful Hotel La Perla in the Italian Dolomites. A property where one’s experience is made up of more than just outdoor activities, Hotel La Perla brings together unique elements and special people in an absolutely stunning setting. Of course, as it is also a snow lover’s winter paradise, with skiing the most popular activity. In fact, Hotel La Perla is a ski-in, ski-out property that provides direct access to the Dolomites' 750 miles of connected slopes, one of the largest ski areas in the world.
Staying at Hotel La Perla evokes a certain feeling that is difficult to explain. To help you get a sense for the "La Perla experience", I will take you through a series of words and phrases below that, for me, spark a particular understanding of what it means to be a guest at this very special hotel. I thank you for taking the time to read about this extraordinary place and encourage you to contact me whenever I can be of assistance.
The Costa family is unlike any other I've known. With a great passion for hospitality, Anny and Ernesto Costa (pictured among their grandchildren in the photo to the left) founded Hotel La Perla back in the fifties on the values of quality, authenticity & uniqueness. Their three sons, Michil, Mathias and Maximilian, have taken over and are now at the helm of La Perla keeping alive the family philosophy and ensuring guests are properly welcomed and respected. The Costasmake a daily and indelible impression on the guests. Mrs. Costa can be found arranging the flowers for each day's table displays; Mathias may engage you as he zooms by on his hover board; and Michil’s unique perspective comes alive in a daily article that accompanies your breakfast. At La Perla, family is at its core and is engrained in the foundation.
Michelin Star. La Stüa de Michil, Hotel La Perla's Michelin starred restaurant, offers incredible flavors with an ambience to match. I cannot think of a cozier place to wine and dine after a long day skiing or hiking through the mountains. If possible, request a table that allows for a view into the kitchen where you can watch head chef Nicola Laera seamlessly blend traditional flavors with innovative techniques.
Wine. This is a big word at La Perla. Have you ever been on a wine cellar tour that felt more like a theatrical performance? Me neither - well, until I visited theMahatma wine cellarat La Perla. The experience is infinitely better if you don't know what to expect so I will not spoil it in hopes that you're able to enjoy it yourself someday. Let's just say there are lights, props, oh, and a temple to the largest collection of Sassicaia wine in the world.
Après Ski. It is important, after spending a day skiing some of the best slopes in the world, that you have the perfect après ski activity to put an exclamation point on the day. And La Perla'sL'Murin Après Skiis certainly an exclamation-point-worthy choice. Run by the previously mentioned Mathias Costa (pictured holding down the fort on the right), L'Murin is not for the faint of heart. At L'Murin, beers are flowing, red-faced skiers fresh off the slopes are dancing, and a DJ is blasting bass-heavy tunes. It is an undeniably club-type atmosphere, one that many have deemed the best après ski in the Dolomites. Worried about the noise affecting your not-so-club-loving clients? Don't worry, the party is over by 9pm every night so as not to disturb the guests.
Leading Bike. The Dolomites are way more than just a winter destination and as the seasons change, a passion for skiing is replaced by a love for biking. In fact, the Costas have created an entire multi-day experience dedicated to the sport. Named theLeading Bike Experience, La Perla pairs bike enthusiasts with state-of-the-art equipment, a pro bike mechanic escort, roads traveled by the most famous of cyclists, jaw dropping vistas, spa access, Michelin star dining, and, of course, luxurious accommodations. For clients who love to cycle, the Leading Bike Experience (clickhereto learn more) should certainly be at the top of their bucket list.
Philanthropy. What is most admirable about the Costa family and the team at La Perla is the work they do to help communities in need. From India to Afghanistan, Nepal to Uganda, theCosta Family Foundationrecognizes those who need love and attention far beyond the Dolomites. It is very humbling to work with a group of people so passionate about giving back and we continue to applaud the fantastic change the Costas are effecting worldwide.
