La Cantina, pictured above and located in the property's medieval wine cellar, is Castel Monastero's more casual dining option. The architecture, with its high vaulted ceilings and visible stone walls, takes you back to a previous time and has an authentic Italian feel. The traditional dishes range from “pici” pasta with bread and tomato sauce, to Chianina meat, and of course (being in a wine cellar), there is an impressive wine list. La Cantina is perfect for either a quick lunch or a laid-back dinner.
La Contrada Restaurant, pictured left and facing the property's main piazza, stays true to the culinary traditions of the area and focuses on using only local products. Castel Monastero's gourmet dining option, La Contrada is an elegant space divided into two rooms that can be used for private dinners. On the menu you will find Tuscan favorites with a modern twist and of course delightful wines, oils and cheeses that are all produced nearby.
Rooms & Suites
Rest
The rooms and suites at Castel Monastero continue the rustic, Italian feel of the property with muted tones and wood accents. The room categories are as follows:
Also available is Villa Lavanda, located just a short distance from Castel Monastero's main grounds and surrounded by a thriving Chianti vineyard. A 17th century structure that has been painstakingly restored, the villa retains all the features of a typical Tuscan country home. Guests of the 3-bedroom Villa Lavanda enjoy all of the same services, restaurants and incredible hospitality as those staying at Castel Monastero.
Looking Ahead: Fall at Castel Monastero
Truffle Hunting
What's better than truffle hunting on a splendid autumn day in the Tuscan countryside? With the outline of the castle against the sky and the woods surrounding them, your clients will accompany trained hunters and dogs in their search for the delicious delicacy that turns every dish into a culinary masterpiece. Then they will enjoy an impressive, truffle-based lunch at the splendid La Cantina restaurant with a menu that is typical of both the local area and the current season.
The Harvest
With fall comes the grape harvest. Each year, Castel Monastero invites guests to participate in this great tradition, allowing them to help pick the grapes that will later be turned in to wine. A fascinating experience for wine lovers, the harvest must occur at a very specific time when the grapes are perfectly ripe. Likely to occur in October, Castel Monastero will announce the harvest dates (along with their harvest package) by mid-July.
