Make sure your travelers visit a city considered to be a thriving metropolis when the great Pyramids of Egypt were only being built and visit an ancient observatory which will help them understand the worldview of ancient societies.

Caral: The oldest civilization in the Americas

The 5000-year-old archaeological site of Caral is situated on a dry desert terrace overlooking the green valley of the Supe river. It dates back to the Late Archaic Period of the Central Andes and is the oldest centre of civilization in the Americas. Exceptionally well-preserved, the site is impressive in terms of its design and the complexity of its architecture, especially its monumental stone and earthen platform mounds and sunken circular courts. The city’s plan and some of its components, including pyramidal structures and residence of the elite, show clear evidence of ceremonial functions, signifying a powerful religious ideology.

While visiting this amazing site, your travelers can opt to spend the night at the Empedrada Ranch & Lodge located only 25 minutes from the site.

Chankillo: Ancient observatory

Archaeological evidence indicates that Chankillo may be the earliest known astronomical observatory in the Americas. Built over 2,300 years ago, the site features a plaza, Thirteen Towers that align on a ridge, and a Fortified Temple surrounded by barricades and defensive walls with false entrances to deter unwelcome visitors.

In July 2021, the Chankillo Archaeoastronomical Complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a masterpiece of human creative genius and an outstanding example of a type of building, architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates a significant stage in human history.
